About Us
History of the Church
Elliston Baptist Church was founded in 1948 in Memphis, Tennessee. During that time, the church has seen great growth and progress, as well as times of transition and challenge. The church has remained a faithful witness in the community of the good news of Jesus Christ. From 1958-2005, the church was served by one senior pastor, the late Dr. Floyd Simmons, who founded Elliston Baptist Academy, a K-12 school located on the church campus. In 2010, Rev. Nicholas Hughes became the pastor of Elliston, and the church is experiencing times of growth and continues to reach the community with the gospel. Elliston works in cooperation with the Mid-South Baptist Association, the Tennessee Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention.
The Purpose of the Church
The Great Commandments
"[Jesus] said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.'" (Matthew 22:37-40, English Standard Version)

The Mission of the Church
The Great Commission
"Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them
to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.'”
(Matthew 28:18-20, English Standard Version)

The Vision of the Church
Our vision for Elliston Baptist Church is simple. We exist to Reach Up, Reach Out, and Reach In. These three are the biblical mandates of the local church.
Reach Up
We work hard to provide an exciting and God-honoring environment for worship. When we worship God, we express our love and devotion to Him. What an honor it is to humbly come before the Creator of the Universe. All of us are wired for
worship, and the only way we can express true love to God and worship Him is through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Reach Out
Another key purpose of Elliston is to reach out to people who are outside the family of God. Every day, we rub shoulders with people who are just an invite away from a life-changing encounter with Christ. Invite your friends, family,
neighbors and co-workers to attend Elliston so they will hear and understand what it means to be a follower of Christ.
Reach In
We also exist to help you as a Christ-follower grow in your spiritual maturity and become full-court followers of Christ. Because the Christian life is one of constant growth and development, we are focused on providing biblical principles
that can be applied to every day life. We want to help you move from a spectator in the stands to the game of active service.
